Some Common Scales

A musical scale is defined as a series of notes of differing pitch chosen according to a specific interval scheme (usually within an octave).

 

Here are some important scales and corresponding note positions:

  • The Chromatic scale: 1 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 6 - 7 - 7
  • The C Major scale: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7
  • The Harmonic Minor scale: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7
  • The Melodic Minor scale: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7
  • The Major 6/Diminished scale: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 6 - 7
  • The Minor 6/Diminished scale: 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 6 - 7
