HarmonyBuilder was born in 1997. The idea came from watching 4 part harmony exercises being projected onto a TV screen via a TV camera. It's original name was HarmonyChecker, and was changed to HarmonyBuilder in 2009 when the Builder panel was implemented.
IS HARMONYBUILDER INTEGRATED WITH THE INTERNET?
Yes. All versions of HarmonyBuilder are automatically linked to online archives and databases. This means that a score can be saved to both a public archive for all to view, or to a private database accessible to those who have been given the access hyperlink.

This version provides additional functionality to HarmonyBuilder (Basic), allowing the user to check for errors in 4-part harmony and counterpoint, making it an ideal tool for music teachers and students.
Color-coding is used to indicate harmony errors as well as signal the presence of major and harmonic minor scale chords. The program automatically recognizes chords and accurately names them in both modern and baroque notation. Modulation hints are provided by a dynamic common Key menu.

- Errors in voice-leading are indicated in real time, allowing the user to adjust the notes accordingly. The rules of harmony are built into the software!
- A score can be printed with any voice-leading errors automatically marked;
- Notes are colored according to their function, making it easy to recognize triads and seventh chords, root motion and note doubling.
- Each chord selected in the score generates a list of all the keys in which it is found, which helps in the process of re-harmonization and modulation.
